Giving the perfect gift can be a challenge. The recipient might already seem to have everything, or have a wildly different taste from yours. Even so, the gift of artwork is both classic and unique and can make a lasting impression on your recipient. Below are several tips for gifting artwork.

Take Cues from Their Style

One can often tell what kind of artwork someone might like based on how they express themselves. Home decor will be the biggest clue. Their style could be traditional, modern, rustic, bold, or classical. Your recipient’s style can indicate the type of artwork they might enjoy.

Take Cues from Their Interests

Another aspect of gifting artwork includes taking into account the recipients interests. Perhaps they have a medical career, are passionate about a certain place, or love a certain time period. Perhaps they have several favorite artists or are a keen collector of artwork themselves. Sometimes, the subject of a piece can be slightly more important than its style, though this is certainly not always the case.  If you know of a particular subject that touches their heart, that might certainly be useful.

How to Get Clues

The main two ways to find appropriate artwork for someone is to take note of their personal style and interests. How do you find these out, though? Aside from noticing what they wear and knowing the things they like in general, you might want to probe the arena of artwork a little further. Ask one of their close friends or family for suggestions on what kind of artwork they might like, or talk with them directly about their thoughts on art. You can also visit an art gallery with them and see which pieces stand out most to them.

Where to Hang It

One of the main concerns about gifting artwork is knowing that your recipient has the right spot to place or to hang it. Even if you are not clear on that, artwork can be a significant, long-lasting memento of your thoughts toward them. For the sake of practicality, it is best to buy a smaller piece so they have more flexibility in where to put it. Even better, if you have visited their house or office, look for a fitting place for display.

Presentation

It is generally better to frame the artwork before presenting it, but you might also consider allowing them to choose the frame for themselves. If you need assistance in this regard, contact Zimmerman Fine Art!  Taste in framing will be as varied as taste in the artwork itself, so if you’re interested in giving the piece framed, you might want to take the recipient with you to the frame shop!
